Review

(My review on goodreads)

I’ve read most of Hume’s major works over the years, and was not expecting to learn much new from this book. But I was pleasantly surprised. This short introduction to Hume does an excellent job of explaining Hume’s work in both epistemology and ethics, but also shows how both spring from a shared philosophical programme.

The book is written in an easily understandable way, an accomplishment made easier because Hume also wrote in a way intended to be understood. I liked that this introduction went into enough depth and detail to bring out the really important aspects of Hume’s philosophy.
